Elizabeth grew up as a Marine brat. The family followed her father from one posting to another, or spent time on Earth if they couldn't be with him. Alone amongst the children, Elizabeth enjoyed the Marine life and enlisted upon leaving school at 18. Contrary to the family's expectations, she joined the Enlisted ranks rather than going straight for Officer training. Her reason? "How can I know what they are going through if I haven't been through it?" Once he got over the shock, her father supported her in this view.
